Basically, I have a weak CPU and a Strong GPU. But, games like Destiny 2 start out running fine and gradually grow more and more stuttery and laggy. I am pretty sure that it's being caused by the CPU heating up, but it could be caused by something else. If I were to increase the CPU fan speed, do you think that it would make the games run for longer without stuttering? This is a temporary fix, of course. I'm still planning on upgrading my CPU ASAP.

1. What Processor

2. What GPU

3. Temperature of processor under load?

4. Utilization of both under load while stuttering?

5. You're current CPU cooler?

6. Have you like, tested this with other games?

7. I mean at this point just list your system specs.

1. AMD Athlon II 645 3.1

2. GTX 1060 6GB

3. 50-60 Degrees Celsius.

4. CPU gets to 100%, GPU Doesn't go above 50%.

5. Coolermaster.

6. Yes, it even begins to stutter in League of Legends. It also begins to stutter in Risk of Rain 2, and Skyrim: Special Edition.

7. 8 GB of RAM, GTX 1060 GB, AMD Athlon II 645 3.1, 1 Terabyte Harddrive, 100 GB SSD.

Case closed. That dinosaur won't be able to play modern games very well. Based on a non-original source the maximum operating temperature for that is 71c so that shouldn't be the issue. The game probably lags the longer you have it open as it's loading more and more resources while you walk around.

8gb of ram is also limiting. Is there an older game you can play that doesn't have stuttering?

Feelsbadman. The more I hear about this thing the more I hate the fact that I wasted money on the piece of trash lmao. But the weird thing is that even whenever I log out of the game, my PC is more laggy. It even starts stuttering on YouTube.

Is cpu usage still at 100% when you stutter in youtube? After the game closes (assuming a few seconds have passed) it shouldn't still be stuttering.

Also, that's the thing. It's no longer at 100% CPU usage, but it's still stuttering, which doesn't make any sense. Stuttering is caused by the processor being unable to process information fast enough, isn't it? Also, yeah, I'm planning on upgrading to 16 GB. I would have done it sooner, but my brother is a "8 GB is all you need" preacher.

A bit odd. Is the drive the OS is on at 100% usage when it stutters? Maybe try updating graphics drivers. IMO I would hold out on upgrading to 16gb and just upgrade the mobo and processor later since you will need DDR4 memory at that point.

I just upgraded my drivers to the newest update with Nvidia Geforce Experience. Also, nope. It's an SSD, so from what I know, it's very hard to put at 100% usage. And I don't have anything else on the SSD. So, what's the order you suggest I update things? Since I only have DDR3 RAM atm. I'm in college, so I'm really cut for cash.

Well upgrading to a modern processor requires a new motherboard (AM3 is old) and DDR3 is no longer supported so you'll need new memory too. Your graphics card is good. I'd suggest saving up for a new mobo/cpu/ram combo. I'm in the same predicament. I'm holding out another year before I upgrade everything. If you were to upgrade now to a decent budget system, say a Ryzen 5 3600, random motherboard and 16gb ddr4, you'd probably be looking at around ~$350 before black friday sales. One thing you'd need to make sure is if the new motherboard supports 3rd gen ryzen (may need bios update). That's a bit complicated to explain but I know microcenter has the ability to do that.

Too bad I'm nowhere near Microcenter. : ^) I've heard so much good stuff, and it just makes me even more disappointed that the nearest Microcenter is about 18 hours away lol. But yeah, I'll start saving up. I don't have any money at the moment, so sadly I'm going to miss out on Black Friday.
