Posted November 20, 2019 So I was aiming to get an ultrawide, 21:9, 1440p, 144hz monitor. The product name is "lg 34gk950f-b". The reason I want it is to get a better gaming experience. This monitor is much more expensive than a regular 1440p 144hz monitor, but is surely worth the extra money..... or is it? I was doing some research about it, and I was shocked to know that many games (like Overwatch or dark souls 3) don't support 21:9, however most newly released games does support it. The thing is, the only way to play games like Overwatch on this monitor, is to play it as if your monitor is 16:9, leaving you with irritating black borders on the edges. So I came here to ask you, is it worth it to get this monitor? Or should I just go with 16:9 instead?
 Posted November 20, 2019 I have an UW and love it. Playing games on it is fantastic. But if you're only worried about one or two games then maybe just don't bother and save some cash Community Standards || Tech News Posting Guidelines ---======================================================================--- CPU: R5 3600 || GPU: RTX 3070|| Memory: 32GB @ 3200 || Cooler: Scythe Big Shuriken || PSU: 650W EVGA GM || Case: NR200P
 Exactly what I've done. And in my experience only one game I've had hasn't supported it. Posted November 20, 2019 I've also only found a couple of games that don't accommodate the resolution, and honestly? The black bars aren't noticeable once you're playing. I've never understood people that complain about them. It's not much different than simply having a regular monitor in front of you. Posted November 20, 2019 There's some website ("Ultrawide gaming" or something) that has patches for a lot of games to allow 21:9 resolutions. Edit: there you go. They actually have this 'hack' for DS3. Granted it's not as good as native 21:9 support but better than black bars https://www.wsgf.org/dr/dark-souls-iii/en Gaming HTPC: R5 5600X - Cryorig C7 - Asus ROG B350-i - EVGA RTX2060KO - 16gb G.Skill Ripjaws V 3333mhz - Corsair SF450 - 500gb 960 EVO - LianLi TU100B Desktop PC: R9 3900X - Peerless Assassin 120 SE - Asus Prime X570 Pro - Powercolor 7900XT - 32gb LPX 3200mhz - Corsair SF750 Platinum - 1TB WD SN850X - CoolerMaster NR200 White - Gigabyte M27Q-SA - Corsair K70 Rapidfire - Logitech MX518 Legendary - HyperXCloud Alpha wireless Boss-NAS [Build Log]: R5 2400G - Noctua NH-D14 - Asus Prime X370-Pro - 16gb G.Skill Aegis 3000mhz - Seasonic Focus Platinum 550W - Fractal Design R5 - 250gb 970 Evo (OS) - 2x500gb 860 Evo (Raid0) - 6x4TB WD Red (RaidZ2) Synology-NAS: DS920+ 2x4TB Ironwolf - 1x18TB Seagate Exos X20 Audio Gear: Hifiman HE-400i - Kennerton Magister - Beyerdynamic DT880 250Ohm - AKG K7XX - Fostex TH-X00 - O2 Amp/DAC Combo - Klipsch RP280F - Klipsch RP160M - Klipsch RP440C - Yamaha RX-V479 Reviews and Stuff: GTX 780 DCU2 // 8600GTS // Hifiman HE-400i // Kennerton Magister Folding all the Proteins! // Boincerino Useful Links: Do you need an AMP/DAC? // Recommended Audio Gear // PSU Tier List
 You are right, they are not that bad. But still, why would I get an expensive UW monitor just to play as a regular one. It seems that games that don't support 21:9 are so rare, so I guess this won't be a problem.
 For the other games that do work in 21:9, and I assume you don't exclusively game on your system and use it for other things as well.
