Old hat here. . . Glossy vs anti-glare

Mmynameistaken

What are the benefits of glossy? Pros and Cons of the display. I know that glossy picks up reflection more than an anti-glare but beyond that I at loss. Is one better for color or something?

Anti glare is just a mat display. Your reflection isn't visible. I don't believe it has impact on image quality though.

I prefer matte, go to a store and check it out in-person

Non-anti glare (glossy):

Pros:

- Looks sharper & more premium IMO

Cons:

- Shows fingerprints and smudges much easier

- Glare of lights and sunlight, would be frustrating in an office or school environment

- Forced to look at yourself and contemplate why you are wasting your life away during loading screens for games and videos.

Anti-glare reduces contrast and black levels. This has a perceptual negative impact on colors aswell. It can also ,depending on the type of layer used, add a 'gain' to the image

Glossy, no anti glare allows for more contrast, deeper blacks. And in some cases ofc no 'gain'. but you have to work around reflections.

I use a 42" Plasma, beyond the obvious superiority to LCD, the screen itself has no anti-glare, its glass. Simple solution to reflections, position ur setup so that there is no light source behind you and perhaps also do what iv done and ether paint the wall directly behind u black or hang a black fabric on the wall.
