Possible future build

lewdicrous

Hello,

I'm thinking of building a new PC and was hoping to get some feedback on the parts I have in mind, and whether I can reuse some parts from my current build.

I use my PC for uni (writing reports and whatnot) and for some gaming.

Here's my current build:

Here's the proposed upgraded build:

Here are the parts I'm thinking of keeping from my current PC:

  • GPU
  • RAM, if I decide to not buy the faster ones with the rest of the parts, I know that it's kinda slow for ryzen
  • Storage
  • CPU fan, depending on whether I use the included cooler or not (probably gonna use the wraith prism)

Here are the parts I'm thinking of changing:

  • Monitors, will keep one as a secondary monitor, but I might get a higher resolution/refresh rate as my main.
  • PSU, this is only if I decide to giveaway/sell my current build, if not, then I might reuse the one I have.
  • GPU, I know it's in the previous list, but if I feel like I need to upgrade it if I get a 1440p144 (that's if I can find one locally at a good price)

Thanks in advance.

Edit: I'm okay with changing the parts, the list is not permanent.

Budget: $900 to $1000 max

If I do get an new build, then I'm gonna slowly add to it as I go, I won't buy everything at once.

The hyper 212 evo is barely any better than the wraith prism. Hopefully you can overclock the ram like crazy and get it close to 3000MHz.

As for that PSU you chose, damn that's a lot of wattage. Any reason not to go for the 550 watt model?

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

Yea, I didn't check the differences between them, so keeping the current cooler was not set in stone.

The 2133 MHz sticks will hopefully be temporary, that's if I don't buy the 3200 MHz along with the rest of the parts.

I was thinking of keeping my current build functional after getting the new one, but if I decide to retire it, then I might keep that PSU. If I do decide to keep the current build, then I might get a 650W instead of the 750W listed, I just kept that in the list cause I used that when pricing the whole thing.

Why do you want to upgrade? I can't see that making any sense over what you have now, I doubt you'll see that much of an increase when it comes to gaming.

As for your planned build:

  • Ditch the 212 EVO. It's old news.
  • Definitely upgrade the RAM, you're going to see significant performance hits with 2133mhz.

Honestly? You're gaming at 1080p60. With a 1070. You should be perfectly fine. I don't see the point of this "upgrade".

I just randomly thought of upgrading while in college, so I'm still thinking about it.

If I go through with the build, then that would be the plan; using the wraith prism until I feel like I need to upgrade (if I OC a lot)

I was thinking of replacing my main monitor with a higher refresh rate one and possibly 1440p in the future.

The other monitor, and the current system, might go to someone else (with a 1060 that I have laying around) if I don't use it for folding or somehow turn it into a hackintosh. (that brings up problems of its own, so yea...)

This is a potential build, so if I don't find a way to justify the upgrade/sidegrade, then I might not go through with it, depends on what I'm planning to do with the current one.
