Best CPU pairing with a GTX 1080?

I've got some spare parts laying around and when I do my GPU upgrade next year I'll have everything I need bar a CPU and mobo. I plan on using this as a media PC that'll do some couch gaming. So, with that in mind, I was wondering what's the cheapest way to get this up and running without the GPU being bottlenecked by the CPU? In other words, what's the cheapest CPU I can get that'll go well with this 1080?

A 3600 is enough. though you can get something better if you can afford something more expensive

If it’s a media PC it needs to be quiet too which means low power.  For gaming it needs some threads too if you want to play new stuff.  Some 65w zen2 cpu maybe?  Depends on what is cheap.  You don’t need a ton of CPU to avoid bottlenecking a 1080

there are some older used intel things that are cheap but they don’t tend to be low power.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.

probably something along the lines of a R5 1600 or better on AMD and intel 4790K or 5820K used kit i guess...

Ryzen 5 3600

that would be the IDEAL CPU to pair with it...or a i7-8700 or something...but he asked the cheapest :)

i think you can have decent fun and pump up the graphics and have a good gaming experience with less CPU than that.

x86 :P . Ijust recently bought a R5 2600 and it does fine with my 5700XT. Jays2 cents recently did a great video on bottle necking. the reason i bought the 2600 over anything else is coz the price is so ridiculuosly low. I cant believe I can get a 12-thread CPU so cheap!
