Test GPU without 6pin?

I flip PCs to make some money and I just got a Sapphire Nitro+ RX 480 4GB in the mail. I would like tot test it but I don't have a PSU to go with it in the pc yet. All I have right now is a 300W PSU for testing. If I run the card using only the PCIe slot for power just to see if I can get to the BIOS would it damage my card?

chances are you would never get into the bios the card would'nt fuction. last time i tried this, i was on a 1060, and it just didnt output anything

some radeon cards often would display a red message onscreen to:

 

Connect the 6pin cable to your graphics card

 

but that may have faded since last time i used a a radeon gpu

if you have the 300w psu, does'nt it have 6pin?

I remember long ago when I bought a gtx650 and installed it. Fanspin, no output, panic ensues for 2 seconds then I remember forgetting to plug in the 6pin.
