I like 800x600, but the screen is like a scrambled TV at that, I can go below or above that & have no issues, I don't have the drivers for my card installed, but no need really I just do the web mostly in linux.

Install them. It doesn't matter what you're doing with it, using anything but the proper drivers for your card inevitably leads to problems, resolution issues being among them.
