So im curious, ive heard that if you have any type of drive (In this case an m.2 ssd) that the speed for read and writes become less and less on their performace, the fuller the drive becomes, my question is, how full can a Samsung Evo Plus 2TB M.2 drive get before you start to see the read and write performance drop, to the point where its best to buy a second drive and stop filling that 1st drive up?

this is subjective, so the answer is just "fill it in till you can feel it slowing down"

I think 20% for over provisioning is usually what's recommended, however a lot of drives also have that built in.

Honestly, you won't really notice a slowdown. Plus you have a 2TB drive, that's loads of space.

It depends on the chip layout.

 

Most SSD's are only two chips. If you fill the drive past the half way point, it will start noticeably becoming slower. The Evo Plus is 3-bit TLC. The warranty is 1200TB Written.

Basically, the larger the drive, the more durability it has. However to make the drive last the longest, you want to make sure not to fill the drive past the half way mark. You CAN use the entire space if you want, but the wear-leveling will become less efficient as soon as it crosses the half way point on the drive since it might create a situation where one chip is used more than the other.

 

Another thing to consider is that these drives do not come with heat sinks. The heatsinks will have little bearing on the wear leveling, but it will on the performance. So if possible you should have at least a heat spreader on the drive.
