Hi all,

I bought a Samsung 970 Evo Plus 2TB. Was very excited to install it. But i cant get it to boot windows.

I have a Asus Prime B360 Plus mother board, wich has a m.2_2 slot supporting PCIe x4 3.0/2.0 @ 32GB/s, this is the slot i plugged the m.2 ssd in.

When i tried starting up my pc it crashed and said CRITICAL_SERVICE_ERROR or something allong those lines. After wich it tried to ''prepare automatic repair'' wich was a never ending loop.
Now im kinda lost on what to do. I already have a 250gb ssd with windows 10 on it, and a 1tb hard disc. These are in the SATA_2 and SATA_1 slots on my motherboard. I thought i maybe couldnt start up because of the NVMe and SATA thing, but google told me that i shouldnt have trouble running both kinds of storage at the same time. (I also saw a video on someone installing the same m.2 ssd i got in his system, with already having SATA connections, and he mannaged to boot normally).
The one thing i can think of is that i have something wrong in my BIOS. Or maybe that the SATA's 1 & 2 are disabled when using the m.2_2 slot. So i swapped them to SATA 3 & 4 and it still wouldnt work.

What stands out to me is that it does detect that i have a 970 evo in my system, but doesnt give me an options to change m.2_2's configuration. (added pic for refference)
It shows M.2_1 Configurations & PCIEX16_2 Mode Switch, wich is a slot im not using. In the video i watched (linked below) it just showed m.2_1 and below that m.2_2.

Could the fact that its not showing properly have something to do with why i cant get in my windows?
Or is there some other problem i didnt see?

Please help, ive been f*cking around with this for about 2 weeks now and cant seem to figure it out :/.

Im 99% sure yes. because it also gave me the windows failed screen when trying to start up (the critical error one) @Jurrunio

Does it go back to normal if you take the SSD out?

I assume the first M.2 slot is already in use?

I have 2 m.2 slots, the m.2_1 is not in use, m.2_2 is the one i put the 970 in.
My pc starts up and goes in windows like normal after i remove the 970 again (gives an error but can restore and get back in windows like normal)

@Jurrunio

why not use the top M.2 slot then?

M.2_2 most likely just doesn't have any configuration. Judging by the manual it only runs in PCIE x4 Mode. M.2_1 has options because it can be set to PCIE x2 or SATA.

is there any way i can change the config so i can actually use the m.2 NVMe there?

because it shouldnt support NVMe right? the 1st one is 16gb/s and 2 lane. While the 2nd one is 32gb/s and 4 lane.

It should support NVMe, just capped at PCIE x2.

From what I can see on your bios screenshot above, M.2_1 is already set to PCIE mode so you can just put the SSD there.

I will try that, but why would my bottom slot not work? even tho it seems that the bottom one is MEANT for fast cards like the 970
