The Outer Worlds is the best Bethesda game that Bethesda never made.and probably the best AAA game released in years..

Master Disaster

I've made no secret of the fact I've become very disillusioned with PC gaming over the last few years. I have bought about 4 new games in the last 3 years (and actually one of those was RDR2 which came bundled with my PS4 Pro), mostly I play old games now.

My uncle persuaded me to try The Outer Worlds, I played it on his PS4 and instantly fell in love. In fact so much so that it persuaded me to open on EGS account and buy it on PC.

I'm sure most of you here have seen or heard all about so I won't bother going into details. I will say that it has some of the funniest writing I've ever heard in a game. In fact the writing in general in amazing.

I don't think I can actually fault anything I've encountered so far. Imagine the graphics of God Of War but the world and gameplay of Fallout without any Bethesda bugs and amazing story telling and world building and you're still not fully there yet.

Most importantly though, its just a game. It has no editions, no microtransactions, no lootboxes, no monetisation, nothing except one price and you get a full product. Obsidian made a game and sold a game. That is a business model I can support.

I cannot encourage you enough to get this game, if you like RPGs then you will love this.

I have mixed feelings about the game.

I would have liked to have a 3rd person option like I do in Bethesda games and a more complex character creation system.

Also the ai for NPCs is much more complex in Bethesda games and that has a lot to do with what can go wrong.

I do like to see NPCs eating and sleeping and having lives.

Going through the story and making the decisions is nice.

Not having any bugs is nice as well.

It looks pretty good. I might check it out sometime but despite Fallout 76, I still think the Fallout series is pretty engrossing and fun to play. I've lost hours just pursuing that one more quest, searching that one more building, or discovering one more location. So I'm not ready to hop on this "Best game Bethesda never made" bandwagon which I suspect is partially driven by resentment over 76 than actual objectivity.

That said, maybe it is that great that it puts Bethesda to shame but considering the amount of time people have put into Elder Scrolls and Fallout, myself included, there is definitely a lot of persuading that needs done. Honestly, if it weren't for the whole 76 incident and the insane failures/violation of community trust that Bethesda pulled, I would take these kinds of claims more seriously. But I think the well is just way too tainted right now and people are looking for something to be better, not necessarily because of the actual flaws with the Fallout and ES series but because they just want to see this thrown in Bethesda's face.

I probably won't get to it for quite some time due to my already massive backlog. I still have console games I still haven't even removed from their shrink wrap and PC games I still haven't even installed after buying digitally.

I'm not about to actually draw any comparisons between this and Bethesda games because I haven't played it yet. It does look like a lot of love and care was put into it which is a good sign for any game in my book. A passionate developer is worth their weight in gold.

Does anyone actually use the 3rd person option though? I know in Fallout 3 and New Vegas at least, it is the most wonkiest looking thing ever lol. Your characters looks like they are running on a treadmill in a zero gravity environment. ?

I really just use it to see what my character looks like.

I use it most of the time and then use first person in combat.

It is also nice for screenshots.

Have really liked it so far, even if they did try and make me feel guilty about snubbing a mean corporate guy... ?

Companions are fucking awesome, dialogue is excellent, choices actually matter even down to what/if any companions you bring with you when and where, all sorts of stuff. Game looks quite nice, gunplay is solid, movement is pretty good, UI is excellent, etc. I haven't gotten the hang of consumables yet though so I just sell those and mostly collect guns. Perk system is cool, not so in-depth that it's bamboozling.

Im 25h in and i agree.

Its rare these Days. A finished, bugfree Game. No Life Service BS, no Shop no nothing of this Shit. Just a great Game.

Edit: Its not the perfect Game for me tho. But im sure with a bigger Budget and  larger Open Worlds, Obsidian could become Number 1.

But anyway, atm. it puts Bethesda to shame.

Only a few hours in but so far its great!  Was a big fan of Fallout 3 and New Vegas, this is bringing some of that back.  The game seems much more polished than Bethesda anything, so thats good, and yea so far everything seems pretty spot on.  Tough to put much time to it right now because contrary to the OP, IMO there is so much choice for good new games right now, cough Disco Elysium.

Just a heads up you can pay £3.99 a month or your regional equivalent for the Xbox Game pass beta on PC and have access to The Outer Worlds. Well worth it, pay for however long it takes you to complete then cancel. I originally got it to play Gears of War 5

Edit: £3.99 -> £3.99 a month

I finished it. Its about 35h and that was fine for what it is.

Not a single crash or bug or anything like that. The balancing throughout the campain is a bit off since i became way too powerfull at some point, but overall its realy a great Game.

Its ALOT of talking. So People who look for more combat than talk/read should be aware of that.

8.5/10

Yeah, I'm still fairly early in the campaign and I already have a weapon that vaporises any enemy pretty much instantly.
