Long story short, I sold my friend my old computer. These are the specs:

FX-8350

MSI 970A-G46

XFX Radeon HD 78780 GHz Edition

Light-On CD Drive

XFX 550w PSU

16GB (4x4GB) DDR3 1600

128GB Kingston SSD

(Originally I had a FX-6300 and only 8GB of RAM, but I used the pc for months without problems)

I had just restored the computer and it seemed a bit choppy/ Usually its because there's no drivers or anything. So my friend downloads driver boost and that updated his graphics driver and stuff, but then he started doing windows update and 4% of the way through installing updates the computer just went black. Now when he tries to start it up, it'll either come up with "diagnosing your pc" and if it gets past that, all the advanced options are pretty useless and don't do anything. The furthest he's gotten is it'll boot up, his keyboard and mouse light up, the windows screen loads, then it just goes black, even the mouse and keyboard. He said it was working fine the first 30 minutes or so, then all this started happening

Any recommendations?

Plus I would never use a 3rd party driver program...you never know what kinda crap you gonna get.  Just let windows install what you need and go the the manufactures site to download anything windows won't install.  And yes, install the video driver from AMD s' site even if windows installed a driver.

Safe mode works, but it doesn't have networking. Even when I boot into safe mode with networking it just doesn't work. I'm using a wireless adapter, maybe I need to be hard wired in?

correct, if your wireless and dont have the driver for that card it wont work at all because it will need a driver. if you have an android phone. look up the driver on your phone download and plug your phone into your computer booted in safe mode drag and drop driver/software to your desktop and install/ your wifi card will then work.

i would also create a brand new usb install stick with a fresh copy of downloaded windows media creation tool.

So I tried both, I tried installing the graphics driver and the wireless lan driver. The lab driver installed but it still says I don't have internet. I tried to install the graphics driver but all I get is "failed to load detection driver" and this is all after a clean install using the media creation tool on the usb

Update: I can boot the PC in safe mode but I don't know where to go from there. Windows update doesn't seem to work and it won't let me install the graphics driver in safe mode, but I also can't boot my computer regularly because it'll just give me a black screen
