NAS for Time Machine Backups

I am looking for a NAS to make Time Machine Backups. I was looking at tutorials for a Synology NAS but I'm not sure of which one is the best option and how would the process for backing be. would it automatically connect to the NAS when the mac is in the same network and do a backup automatically or would I have to manually connect the mac to the nas? anybody knows about Time Machine Backups with a NAS?

How much data do you need to store?

 

It will auto connect and backup when on he same network.

Just one mac that has a 500 GB ssd. I think that 1 or 2 Tb would be good as total storage for now

For that small of storage, why get a nas. Id just get a external hdd. Much easier to use and manage. But if you really want a nas, id just get a cheap synology.

It's mostly for remote access, not having to worry about cables, and access on multiple devices

Then id get a budget synology nas. But also the time machine backups will only work normally on the same lan.
