What is the difference between offset voltage and manual voltage?

Offset voltage changes the voltage in increments, e.g: .025. Where as manual voltage is set by the user and doesn't have restrictions (some boards only let you change in increments of 5) but basically as manual as it gets.

Offset voltage will allow your motherboard to push less volts to the CPU when it is not being used as much whereas a Manual voltage will always yield that set voltage level.

 

For example if you use Offset, it could look something like this:

Idle: CPU Volt: 1.05v

Load: CPU Volt: 1.25v

 

If you use Manual:

Idle: CPU Volt: 1.25v

Load: CPU Volt: 1.25v

 

Basically Offset voltage is a way that you can overclock your CPU to get more performance out of your CPU only when needed.  This can potentially expand the life of your CPU over a manual clock because you are not constantly pushing unneeded volts.  As to how much degrading (if any) I could not answer that question.

The affect is usually negligible, it raise temps though and that does shorten chip life.

Most of the time a system is idling but if you don't use speedstep or the balanced power plan then it won't undervolt so it won't make a difference to lifespan. Manual voltage just sets the voltage to a fixed voltage that's static 24/7. Offset voltage works complety different; when the CPU needs to raise the clock speed the voltage will just increase dynamically with the clock. Eg 1200MHz 0.7V - 2000MHz 0.9V - 2500MHz 1.0V - 3200 MHz 1.15V - [here your max OC] @ vcore under prime95

Lifespan is just irrelevant, you're just coming with prediction stories so it's pointless to argue about it. Probably the most obvious things you'll encounter are degradations -> CPU starts to ask more Vcore to be stable over time. Few factors that cause this: usage/clocks/volts & temps so you just either speed up the process or you just try to keep the degradation process (which will be always there) minimal like use speedstep/offset if your system idles most of the time. 

If you never idle and lets say you mine 24/7 with your cpu well then it's not going to make any difference.

If you have asus board, just use manual voltage, and whenever you want to save power, select a EPU profile on AI suite, its easier and you save much more power
