Hi, looking to build a new pc and was wondering if the 3700x is worth the around $100 price primium versus a 3600 and better cooler for OCing. I lightly game but primarily look to run Inventor (CAD) as well as web browsing, etc. I will be running 2 1440p monitors with a 1070ti. Budget isn't super strict but I'd obviously like to save money wherever in order to upgrade peripherals, etc. Thanks

Like you already have the 1070ti? Or you're getting one cheap/free?

Are you doing a ton of actual rendering in the software? Doesn't seem like much of it is able to use multiple CPU threads.

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

I already have the 1070ti and there isn't much rendering.

US, I'm currently running a 4960k.

Then probably just go for something like that

if you want a better cooler get a Neptwin or Scythe Fuma 2

That X570 board just happens to be cheap on that website

Im guessing I'd need a better cooler to be able to overclock well? Also, is the advantage of going for 3600 memory significant?

a basic $20 air cooler like a Gammax 400 will be fine

the dual tower coolers are just for lower noise levels mostly

the Ryzen 5 3600 isn't going to kick out much heat, maybe 100-120 avg even with some overclocking.

What about 3600 mhz memory? Is the upgrade significant?

I wouldn't pay a lot more for it, check out actually hardcore overclocking for a lot more info across long videos

if it's within like $10 maybe, for 3600 CL16, but you can probably just overclock the 3200mhz kit too.

Neptwin has more performance as a cooler at the same price

3600mhz Cl16, it got expensive I imagine because of Ryzen 3000, it used to be $80 for a kit, now it's $100 on the part picker.

Would stick to 3200mhz CL16

Would also suggest a case with airflow that has a mesh front, this one still has the same aesthetic.

Case and Power Supply pricing is up with the trade war, could also just reuse your current case and power supply?

THe 660p is just nice for the money and has a sizable cache for speeding itself up.

I've heard the 660p was slow no? I was also hoping to still have my old system usable so I rather not reuse parts. Are there other options for coolers that are relatively quiet at a lower price?

Not particularly, you just want to find the biggest/fattest cooler for the lower price

there's this one for $35

The CAS latency is listed on the main page

3600mhz CL18 isn't going to be much if any faster than 3200mhz CL16 at a lower price.

3200mhz CL14 is also expensive for the same reasons.
