So I am finally in a position where I can upgrade my gaming pc

i have decided to go all out and go for

9900k

32/64gb memory 3200

1080ti from current pc

750w psu

however I am undecided on motherboard I want a wide array of features but also want it to look good. I like the look of gigabytes boards but have heard they aren’t great so I am looking for motherboard recommendations.

thanks in advance.

for solely gaming purposes, the 9900K is more expensive than it's worth. What are your main use cases for the PC?

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

PSU tier list

How many watts do I need?

PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

Don't know who told you the gigabyte boards are bad, the Z390 Aorus line are some of the best of the platform, their feature set and price points are unbeatable. Plus the VRMs are some of the better of the Z390 boards.

No one in particular just something I’d read a couple months back apparently their BIOS isn’t very good but it might have changed

I've never had a problem with their bios, a lot of people give it grief because it's a little confusing. Functionally it's perfectly fine, just not as easy to use as others. Once you learn where everything is it's not bad.

I've been using a Z390 Aorus Ultra paired with my 9900k for the past 7 months and it's still running solid. And I hit my PC HARD like REAL HARD (I do a hell lot of 3D). The bios works, nothing really bad functionally, but it can be a little confusing. give yourself more time to navigate it.

It is mainly gaming solo but I do sometimes host a server and play on that server on the same machine.

Minecraft servers benefit little from multiple threads unless it's a huge server with multiple dozen players

Fair enough I was considering either the ultra or the master but then there were a couple of msg and ASU’s board I was looking at as well

Ok so what would you recommend instead if I didn’t get the 9900k

Like I mentioned before, the i7 9700K is a great gaming CPU. Of course on the AMD side of things there's the Ryzen 5 3600, which would ultimately deliver the same gaming experience for much cheaper

I read the other day the 3rd gen Ryzen chips ran very hot when not being used much like web browsing?

One of the earlier problems with Ryzen 3rd gen was too much idle voltage, which has since been fixed. Overall Ryzen processors consume less power than Intel this generation.

What about the reliability of the fan on the motherboards?
