The stuff already purchased I'd hardware from the Argo, that I'm planning on reusing. I am thinking, since I've already got three of the WD 1TB Black drives, I could grab one more and turn it into a 3TB Raid 5 storage array for my document and other downloads and random stuff that I don't need fast access too.

The primary use case is still going to be single thread limited VR gaming (flight sims), but from what I've been digging up, it looks like the performance should still be very comparable to the I9-9900k builds, especially if I'm able to get single core clocks up to 4.4Ghz consistently (hence the big water cooler).

The 3800X is dependent on a very good deal one of the local Microcenters is running that puts it about $25 more than the 3700X. Same with the Ram, though it looks like it's primarily a Non-rgb version of the Triton Neo. I know 64mb is too much for now. I want to hold onto the back bone for a long time, so got into the (probably bad) habit of buying more RAM than I think I need. (Argo has 32GB and it was from 2013...)

Any major holes I'm missing here?

Thank you,

Harry Voyager

RAID 5 is not a good solution for larger drives. Consider RAID 10 instead.

The problem with RAID 5 is that rebuilds generally take  a long time. Upwards of 20+ hours with 2TB drives. While the array is being rebuilt an error results in the total loss of the entire array.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

Ah. Makes sense. I'll probably skip getting the extra drive and just run the three I've already got as individual archive drives then. Does make it a bit easier to move them from box to box, actually.

One thing I'm wondering about, if I want to try an OC on my 1080 TI and a later 16 core Ryzen, is 850 watts going to cover it? Some of the power draw stuff I've seen for the multi-chiplet Ryzen and power boosted Geforce have each of the drawing 200-300W each.

Only under extreme oc might such power levels occur. And even if you pushed a system to the point of drawing 600W for cpu and gpu the rest of the system is not likely going to draw more than 175W.
