Samba not working

Go to solution Solved by JoranC123,

Okay i got it working FINALLY

The problem was my mount point was in a users home i mounted it as /mnt/sdb and now to works of anyone has this error ask for my help!

can you test with something that isn't a phone?

Did you restart smbd and nmbd?

to save you having to make changes to smb.conf  you could install system-config-samba and work with a gui to add shares.

Please quote my post, or put @paddy-stone if you want me to respond to you.

Did you run testparm to check if your config is correct?

Did you restart smbd as paddy-stone suggested?

On Debian this is my working example file:

[test]

path = /pool-name
available = yes
valid users = user1 user2 user3
read only = no
browseable = yes
public = yes
writable = yes

You should add a space between [Server] and the above line. I can't guarantee the config is the same between Debian & RHEL.

Some Googling says 0xC0000066 may have something to do with: STATUS_NO_SUCH_GROUP. You've specified that you're forcing group
@Joran. Have you verified this group exists? Remember it is case sensitive.

On your app does it prompt you to login?

Yes, i have a samba user that is connected to my linux account and is member of Family

I would try to login from a Windows or Linux desktop and see if it can give you a more recognizable error.

Glad you got it working.

Just to answer your question though, you run it by terminal "sudo system-config-samba"

It is good to know how to edit the smb.conf file too though... but I found it much easier creating the shares using GUI.

Yeah true but still if i had used the same mount point in the GUI i would have run into the same problems,

Well yeah, but you could say that about almost anything. it's still easier to use the GUI than edit the smb.conf IMO, and easier to check/edit the settings if you mess up.

Anyway, no worries, just trying to help... i'm not "proficient" at linux, just know a few things that have helped me and want to pass it on.
