Hi im having issue with an laptop running xp im trying to get to boot again. I found that the issue is related to avast antivirus file. i looked on the avast forums and found an thread about the issue there. And there was some suggested solutions that seemed eas and simple the problem is just that i can't get any of the programs suggested in that thread to run on the windows xp laptop to do the fix that seemed quite easy in itself. which was to boot it to an command line thing and then delete the entire avast stuff of the pc there. Any other suggestions on how to fix either part of the issue? either another solution to fix the boot problem itself or an thing i can run off an usb that will allow me to edit the hdd to remove avast stuff. That will work on an xp laptop.

Can you boot into safe mode? (keep pressing F8 during boot an option for booting into safe mode will appear). When you are in safe mode you can uninstall Avast

No sadly it also refuses to boot into safe mode.

Maybe download and burn a linux live cd (poppylinux?), and delete that .sys file and/or delete Avast from program files folder?

I am currently running the laptop using an linux of an usb, but when i try to delete the avast files of the actual hdd it complains that i only have read permission and i am unable to give myself write permission.
