Replace a cpu

Dsynk

I want to replace my CPU with a new one. today i have Ryzen 1600X. And i dont want to go over to intel bc i dont want to replace my motherboard. So is it just that simple to take the old one out and new in and all work well or do i need to do something more? and what cpu is best to switch to? (still want a Cpu with AM4 socket so AMD? And i game on this computer)

If you got your motherboard back when Ryzen first came out, you'll need to update the BIOS of your motherboard to accommodate a new generation. You can drop a Ryzen 5 3600 in your motherboard, it would be the best upgrade path for a gaming focused build.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

What motherboard/chipset do you have? Usually a BIOS update should be enough, provided your chipset supports the newer CPUs. If in doubt, take a look at your manufacturer's website, search for BIOS updates and see if they have current versions that add support for Ryzen 3xxx CPUs.

See the spoiler for the generic compatibility list. Actual compatibility depends on whether your motherboard has a BIOS update available.

Best CPU depends on: how much do you want to spend, how powerful is your PSU and how good is your motherboard's power delivery :)
