So, i got a pretty old pc, that i want to pass on to my little brother for LIGHT gaming. The specs:

cpu: i3 530 2.9@3.5ghz

gpu: 6870 2gb

mobo: H55m-s2

Ocz vertex ssd

800gb hdd

psu: 550w Thermaltake

So, the cpu is a bit overclocked but still running on stock voltage (Cpu ratio x22, Fsb 150mhz and memory multiplier x8). While i was cleaning up the basement, i found an aftermarket cpu cooler that fitted the 1556 socket of the system, and i thought about overclocking the cpu a bit more...

Questions:

How much of an overclock do you think that this system can get? I've seen quite a lot 530 cpu's going up to 4.2 Ghz....I think that 3.9 is going to be my target.

Also, will i have to raise the Vcore voltage? If yes, then how much should i add? Finally, where is the Vcore voltage setting?

Thanks for reading! :)

I don't think you'll be able to overclock it much as that board has most likely vcore locked.

hey mate, if you can adjust the voltage and stuff on that motherboard you should reach 4 GHz no problem, if your motherboard is locked as the one my friend uses (it's intel) then I'd say around 3.6 GHz is the max, however that is still a MAJOR improvement from the stock performance and he uses the stock heatsink, never gets degrees over 68. Happy tuning.

Edit: I still have some overclocking guides for socket 1156 bookmarked at home, I will send you the link when I get there in around an hour or two.

Thank you ! I can only access the dynamic vcore and qpi/vtt voltage settings.

please remember to warn people not to play with the core frequency with socket 1155 as it will cause instability above an increase from 100 to 105

he is on 1156 platform. It doesn't work as in sandy bridge.

I know, check his link mate, it's misleading to people who just entered the world of tech and MAYBE have a 1155 CPU
