Hi.

I have a system I built about a year ago:

CPU: Ryzen 5 2400g (I was running off of integrated graphics at first without a dedicated GPU, which is why I selected 2400g over something like 2600)

GPU: ROG Strix RX570 4G

RAM: 4x2 2666mhz DDR4

MOBO: MSI B350M Bazooka

My computer handles most games well. The thing that sucks about it is Minecraft, because it's so poorly optimized. With everything turned down, (except for render distance at 6) I regularly drop to about 40 fps on a big lobby with lots of player entities and etc (already using Optifine and a lower-res texture pack). I've heard that Minecraft benefits from single-core performance, so anyone have any recommendations for something to upgrade? Preferably, I'd like to keep my budget around $150, $200, since I also need to upgrade my HDD to an SSD, and my PSU to an actually certified, not-a-piece-of-crap PSU.

I assume you're playing at 1080p?

I'd probably grab an R5 2600, 16GB of RAM, and a GTX 1070.

Welcome to the forum.

OP's budget is only 150-200$ (a used 1070 here is like 250-300$, is it only my prices that are high?)

Yeah, Minecraft likes a lot of ram and cpu performance, perhaps a better 2'nd gen ryzen or a 3'rd gen one?

Haha, yeah your prices are high. They're easily had for $150, I've snagged them for $100.

I sold one last week for $260, and even that took a bit. That's also Canadian.

His budget is $200, but once he sells his current RAM and CPU, he's actually got a pretty decent bit.

Just looked it up and the cheapest new 1070 is 500$ here, lmao. I paid less for my 2060

I think I'll just go for a Ryzen 5 2600x + 16GB of 3000mhz RAM. Just out of curiosity, if I were to upgrade my GPU and had an additional $200, what would you recommend? Obviously a 1070 is out of my budget, but anything else out there that's worth upgrading to?

Welcome to the forum.

Out of curiosity, how much of a difference would a 2600 be compared to my 2400g? I know that Minecraft heavily depends on the CPU, but (at least for previous versions like 1.8) I know that it's primarily a single-threaded workload. And because a 2400g is clocked at 3.6ghz, and the 2600 is clocked at 3.4ghz, or even the 2600x, 3600 are clocked at 3.6ghz base clocks, I'm just not sure if there would be a big performance impact in Minecraft.

The 2600 boosts to the same, so I don't think you'll see much of a difference at all.

You'd have to check out YouTube to see if anyone's benched those.
