Do you have a laptop with this chip? Id just try it.

What do you mean by smoothly? I have had linux run well on much slower of system. If it feels  sluggish try a different de like xfce as gnome 3 is pretty resource hungry

No, I don't have one. I was just a little curious. I only used linux in a virtual machine. Laptops with that chip are cheap. So, was wondering if I should buy one for running linux.

Can a laptop with Intel® Pentium® Processor N4200 processor run linux smoothly? By linux I mean ubuntu. I am a little curious about this. n4200 is a fairly low power processor. How would it perform if the latest ubuntu release is installed in a laptop with n4200 and 4 gb RAM?

If you want a laptop for linux id get something like a used thinkpad or latitude. There faster than these low end chips, better built and cheaper too. Look for something like a t440 or a e6440

Define smoothly. I have a device with an N4200 and it can run a modern desktop-Linux just fine.
