I have a friend who currently has an i5 3770k paired with his 1050 ti and hes been noticing some bottlenecking, what cpu and motherboard combination would be best suited for him if he wanted to leave some room for a gpu upgrade in the future?

if you want to go super basic, the cheapest B450 board you can get with some ddr4 3000 and the ryzen 3 1200 does the job, but in terms of value the best you could get is the Ryzen 5 2600 in a B450 Pro4

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

PSU tier list

How many watts do I need?

PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

What would be some good options for a budget of around $500-$600?

The 3770 doesn't bottleneck a 1050ti. It's the other way around. The 3770 can handle up to a 1070 no problem. Overclocked it could posslbly do fine with a 2070.

I'd say a B450 board like the B450 Tomahawk Max with a R5 3600 and 16GB DDR4-3200 CL15 or 16.

PC Specs - AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D MSI B550M Mortar - 32GB Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR4-3600 @ CL16 - ASRock RX7800XT 660p 1TBGB & Crucial P5 1TB Fractal Define Mini C CM V750v2 - Windows 11 Pro

Thanks man, and no he just games with it, but do you think bumping up to a 9th gen board and cpu like an i5 9400 would be overkill? I know its only a 1050 ti, but what if he wanted to leave some room for a better gpu later?

The 9400 (F or non-F) isn't a match for the Ryzen 3600 anyway, and you'd still need new motherboard & RAM

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600  Heatsink: ID-Cooling Frostflow X GPU: Zotac GTX 1060 Mini 6GB RAM: KLEVV Bolt 3600Mhz (2x8GB) Mobo: ASUS B550-F ROG Strix (Wifi)  Case: Fractal Design Meshify C PSU: Deepcool DQ-M-V2L

He'd be better off with the Ryzen CPU than with an i5

Now there isn't a point choosing intel, especially when looking for value or future upgrades.
