xeon vs core 2 quad

upgrading my duo core.  Should I get a xeon 3360 or intel core 2 quad Q9650  both are very cheap so just need a recommendation.

The Q9650 seems to be the superior option. Clocks higher and supports Intels virtualization platform.

the Q9650 has a slightly higher clock speed so might as well get that one

Q9650 looks like a good option if you can do it cheaply and don't feel pressure to change anything else.  However, personally I'd be feeling like it's time for a platform upgrade if I was in your position.  There's been so much progress in other areas since then, not to mention even a haswell i5, which is nothing special at this point is gonna be like 2x the performance of that Q9650.

depends on how cheap... these CPUs dont even support AVX instruction set so in some tasks (not that you'll run those as a social media machine, but some games do use it) a Core 2 Quad can be wrecked by a modern 15w laptop dual core.

its only 25 bucks for the the q9650.   unfortunately i dont have the money to build a better computer until next year.

Ah good to hear that you can at least get it for cheap.  I had a quick look on ebay and was seeing some pretty high prices
