Hey all!

So currently, the broadband where I'm renting is a PPPoE VDSL2 FTTC connection. With an upload of 2.1Mbps, that is basically exactly in line with what's advertised (minimum 1.5, max 3Mbps). However, the download on the other hand is less than advertised. Much much less.

With a staggering download speed of 0.6Mbps on average and a line sync of approx 3Mbps, there is clearly something wrong, especially with a ping of 200ms on average with 200ms+ jitter. Thing is about 4 days ago, I was reliably getting 6Mbps down with a line sync of approx 7Mbps with no jitter and <30ms of ping so although that's still under the 25Mbps minimum I expect from a FTTC connection, its still much more usable than what it is currently.

To me, it just sounds like the line needs a simple resync however, how do you do that with a PPPoE connection? Usually when the telephone cable goes straight into the modem/router combo, so all you have to do is unplug the combo for a few mins and reconnect, which as the modem was unconnected, it resyncs but with PPPoE, I have no access to the modem. In fact, I don't even know where it is as I'm renting this as "all bills and utilities included, including WiFi" so...welp? ?

Looking at my signature are we now? Well too bad there's nothing here...

FTTC is just fiber to the DEMARK nearby. It's still ADSL from there to your home.

If you were getting at least 6 and it's down to 3 then there is a physical issue with the line. Trust me, from an engineer that managed DSL, almost every time it's a line issue.

Resysncing is referred to as retraining. Just reboot the modem to force a retrain
