ive recetly oc'ed my cpu to 4Ghz at 1.475V. I saw that the voltage can go higher up to 1.55V and kind of wanna see how much more i can get at that voltage. But I had heard that too much voltage can kill your cpu even if you're below the 80C mark. Could aomebody clarify, thanks.

What CPU are you overclocking? If it's the Ryzen 3 2200g in your signature, you are already on the verge of killing your CPU with prolonged use, especially under ambient cooling. A stable, long-term overclock should not exceed 1.4v on Zen, and even that is very aggressive. I run my Ryzen 5 1600, which is on the same architecture, at 1.325v maximum for long-term usage. I actually dialed it back eventually and dropped my clock speed because I figured that 200 MHz isn't worth it.

If you're trying to kill your chip, go ahead and go past 1.5v, but otherwise dial it back.

As voltage goes up so do thermals, but thermal climb near exponentially at high voltage.

Increasing voltage to a high level can burn out a chip quicker than your heat sink can dissipate the heat or thermal protection can react. Additionally at a macro level silicon composing the chip is not perfect and there could be section of the chip that fail before others when taken to high levels.

So yes it can happen, proceed with caution when going outside or to the limit of spec.

If you're OC that 2200G you don't want to go over like 1.425V for daily use, probably want to stick below that even.

long as you're hitting 4ghz you're going to be set.

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

Probably want to dial it back to whatever the lowest voltage 3900mhz is stable at.

Yours is gen 1

It's a much more manageable voltage for not much of a performance loss
