Those are port to port adapters so no. And they exist because some devices use non standard connectors for USB or Firewire.

Well I bought one anyway when i saw it but it’s fine ill just get it refunded.

Yeah, I've been caught out before as well, though with a "VGA to 'HDMI' Adapter". 

One option BTW if you have a PCI slot is to buy a soundcard with firewire, though that of course is rather pricy as few if any budget cards ever had one.
