Bought a new gpu, need help

So I bought a 1660 from gigabyte because my 1050ti is starting to give me some serious issues. I realized after I bought the 1660 that it needs an 8 pin connector. I have no clue where my bag of psu cables went after I moved, but I rummaged thro my girlfriends psu cable bag and it had what I needed. However when I went to plug that cable into my psu this morning it did not want to plug in. I googled around a bit because I have a corsair psu and the cable was an evga and apparently they aren't standardized. So my questions are, is there any way I can make that evga cable work, will it be ok to run the 1660 on just power from the pci slot until I get a cable tomorrow, and if the evga cable won't work, can I just buy an 8 pin to 8 pin cable on amazon?

if you were more familiar with splicing wires.... yes you can make that cable work

but if you aren't comfortable with wire splicing then just buy the correct cable and wait.

Very interesting question, I can only answer one of them. No, it probably won't run on just power from the PCI slot. It'll start bitching at you by asking you to plug it in.

You aren't going to be able to run the card without a power cable connected to it. You should find a proper replacement for your PSU cables.

The PCIe connector on the PSU side might be different so you should probably try to find one that's for your PSU.

1660 has a TDP of 120W so I doubt that it would even boot.

It wouldn't boot. That's more power than can be drawn from a PCIe slot.
