$1500 Build

Hey guys. I'm currently in the process of building a PC online on a budget at ~$1500 AUD and would like to get some feedback on it.

*Note* that this is all being built on www.centrecom.com.au

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2600 6 Core Processor - $193

CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212X Universal CPU Cooler - $49

Motherboard: MSI B450 GAMING PRO CARBON AC AM4 ATX Motherboard - $228

RAM: Kingston HyperX FURY 16GB (2x 8GB) DDR4 2666MHz Memory - White - $121

GPU: MSI Radeon RX570 ARMOR 4G OC DDR5 - $209

Storage #1: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" Internal Hard Drive - $62

Storage #2: Western Digital WD Blue 250GB 3D NAND M.2 SSD - $58

PSU: Cooler Master MasterWatt Lite 500W 80+ Certified Power Supply - $59
Case: Thermaltake Versa N27 Mid Tower Case - Black - $79

Case Fans: 4x Cooler Master MasterFan Lite 120mm Case Fan - White LED - $76 ($19 x 4)

Operating System: Windows 10 - $155

Assembly - $90

TOTAL: $1379

In truth I want this PC to outperform this, both processing and graphic-wise. I'm planning to OC the 2600 upto 3.6-3.8Ghz and so I'm conscious about temperature of it and thus additional fans (also it adds more aesthetics to it). Now I'm worry about whether or not that there will be enough system fan headers for said fans and if they need to use a hub of some sorts for it.

get at least 3000MHz memory

i'd recommend a better PSU, check the PSU tier list for more details. I'd suggest Tier B and above. Maybe Corsair CX550M?

Also, go for Thermaltake Versa H15 instead. Better airflow.

I'd get faster ram, at least 3000Mhz, for Ryzen. Also you can always just get a grey market Windows 10 key off ebay for a trivial amount, so you don't have to buy it.

Specs: CPU: AMD Ryzen R7 3700X @4.4Ghz, GPU: Gigabyte RX 5700 XT, RAM: 32 GB (2x 8GB Trident Z Royal + 2x 8GB TForce Vulkan Z) @3000Mhz, Motherboard: ASRock B550m Steel Legend, Storage: 1x WD Black 1Tb NVMe (boot) + 1x Samsung 860 QVO 1Tb SSD (storage), Case: Thermaltake Core V21, Cooler: Noctua NH-D15

At the moment yeah. Just until I can figure out the networking of my house.

funny that it's cheaper to get the fully equipped board than cheaper board + wireless adapter

those included PSUs are generally crap, just get them separate.

don't ever get PSUs that are included with the case, they are not very good quality. Buy the case and PSU seperate. Masterwatt Lite would be better than the included PSU

You're ripping yourself off in a few ways here:

  • The Gaming Pro Carbon AC is Bios flashback ready. If you're spending that money on a MOBO, grab a Zen 2 chip. (Ryzen 5 3600). I would look to their deal on the B540 Tomahawk MAX.
  • The Hyper 212 is barely a step up from the Ryzen cooler. Just use stock for now and save that money. It can support and overclock.
  • Memory that slow is going to stunt your CPU's performance. Grab 3200mhz.
  • RX570 is a super budget GPU on what is a midrange budget. This is where you're hurting hardest.
  • $80 case plus $75 for 4 case fans? Just buy a Coolermaster case that comes with them built in!
  • Assemble it yourself, ya dingus. It's like putting legos together with a phillips screwdriver.
    • I'd be happy to link a good build guide if you'd like. I like Paul's Hardware guides.

Significantly higher performance. Just fixing the problems listed above.

The prices shown include shipping and handling. So no need to fret over using multiple retailers.

You didn't hear it from me, but: you can get a legitimate windows 10 license on ebay for $5.

I tried using the same site you did. Saved a few dollars on an AIO and case fans by sticking with the stock Ryzen cooler and picking a case that comes with some fans (which are better than nothing). Honestly the stock Ryzen air coolers are really good. I then used those savings to drop way faster memory, a more bitchin' GPU, and give you full solid state storage. Could have probably spent a little less on the PSU and gotten a 550 unit instead, but I didn't feel like doing the wattage calculations and just defaulted to a unit I knew could handle it.

This is far from optimized as I'm not overly familiar with the Australian markets, but you had mostly the right idea.

Although I'll be super honest, unless you're trying to do music/video/art, you could get away with a 4 core Ryzen for gaming.
