screen recording

Go to solution Solved by kelvinhall05,

OBS

I know it is probably a long shot asking this question

but anyway, is there a program that will record a program that is running in the background

currently i have my xbox one streaming to my pc for the sound as it is the only way i can get my headset to work with my xbox

but the problem is while streaming the xbox game dvr does not allow captures

so i would preferably like a program that lets me record the gameplay (with just that programs sound) in the background on my pc while i say watch youtube in the foreground

if you don't have the kinect sensor or a realsense camera connected on your PC, you don't have to install the realsense module ._.

is there a way to choose just 1 applications audio being outputted rather than the output as a whole?

You can use OBS, which supports window capture so you can capture a window that is hidden in the background (as long as it is still visible).

Unfortunately it does not support separate audio streams, you would need a program like Virtual Audio Cable for that.

I myself set up that program last week and let me just recount what to do for it:

- Install Virtual Audio Cable

- Make the program you're recording output its audio to your virtual audio cable output (as opposed to your normal audio out, like speakers). If the program does not support selecting your audio output, right click the sound button in your system tray, 'Open Sound Settings' and on the bottom press 'App volume and device preferences'. There you can change the program's output to the Virtual Audio Cable.

- (Optional, only if you want to hear the program you're recording from in your headphones). Right click the sound button, Speaker Setup > Advanced Setup, go to recording > Right click the Virtual Audio Cable > Properties > Listen > and press 'Listen to this device' (and choose your audio output, like speakers/headphones).

- In OBS, choose - as audio input - the Virtual Audio Cable.

Of course do a test recording before actual recordings. Make sure your settings are all correct.
