In my current rig I'm using a 120 gig' SSD (boot drive) in combination with a 1TB HDD (main storage).

Assuming that I'll perform a platform change from AM3+ to AM4, would the data on my HDD be affected by a windows reinstall on the boot drive?

Or in other words: Could i just go and connect my HDD to the "new" pc without having to worry about losing any data like for example the games I've installed on it?

The data would be unaffected. You'll have to redirect to the game directories on the hdd if you install the games again.

Moved to Storage Devices.

As long as the game software (Origin, Steam, etc) supports it. In Steam, you can detect game files and it’ll verify them and update them.

but remove the drive before you reinstall so you don’t have any data loss during the formatting process.
