Thanks.

You don't need a NAS for only 2TB of storage.

There are Wifi capable hard drive enclosures avalible

but what do you need it for exactly?

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

Oh ok, I need it just for some basic file transferring over network.

You can just make any hard drive connected to your PC accessible over your network.

Probably grab a 2Tb Barracuda drive

Okay maybe not, unless your router has a USB port. Seems like it should have been that simple.

either router via USB or Raspberry Pi and openmediavault.

I really want to get a Raspberry Pi so I would like to try that one out but I dont know if it would be too complex to setup.

Then just follow that guide your router should be able to just make that hard drive or flash drive accessible to the whole network.

Or go with a Freenas installation on a spare junk pc?

or Owncloud is another good option for the pi as that runs through configuration for accessing via cloud
