Cooler Master fan controller not recognized?

I got a 3 pack of cooler master mf120r fans that came with the mini rgb controller but I cant get the software control to work with them. When i connect it to a usb header the I hear the sound you hear when you plug something in, but rgb fusion and masterplus will not recognize it. I have tried restarting my computer, unplugging it and plugging it back in, but it is still not recognized.
