Project Downsize..

Hælend

New to the forums, they say sharing is caring so why not…

So it begins another build, another couple of thousand dollars. Over the years I’ve built many a computer, from low end, to high end, water cooled and some that in hind sight should have been killed with fire, but never anything less than a full size system. This will be my first IXT build so it should be interesting.

The main reason for this new build is downsizing, I currently have a gaming machine as well as a everything else machine, don’t ask how this came about it just so happened like that... I’m looking to build a system that will allow me to mix work with pleasure,  a quality gaming machine small enough to lug around and powerful enough to get the job done.

So far;

Case:

I purchased a Corsair 250D earlier today to kick this build off… I like the aesthetics of this case and the fact that I don’t need to buy a new power supply.

CPU Cooling:

Corsair H100i

Power Supply:

            Corsair AX1200

SSD:

            2x OCZ Vertex 3 120GB drives for raid 0

Internal Storage:

            2x 2tb WD Red

The rest... Nothing final yet, but at this moment it will look something like this:

Motherboard: MSI Z87I Gaming AC Mini ITX Motherboard

CPU: i5 4670k

RAM: Corsair Vengeance CML16GX3M2A1600C10 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3

Graphics: MSI Radeon R9 290 Gaming 4GB

you mean ITX? mITX does not exist....

I've always found it really cool to cram as much stuff into something really small. That's why I chose ITX for my build

Anyways, do you intend to lug it around by putting it in your car or something?

And you should put your location in your profile, it helps a lot with finding good parts for your country etc...

That psu is way overkill for this rig. Get an AX760i or similar. That would be more than enough to power the system even with some moderately heavy oc'ing.

Cheers for the correction, and location tip.

Yeah lug it around in the car, and squish it onto ridiculously desk spaces.

The ax1200 is from my current gaming rig, so its no additional cost to this system and has served me well. The effort and resale price wouldnt be worth the downgrade (in my opinion)

Well if the "m" was for mini, then yes it does exist.

An understandable mistake as it's commonly referred to as "Mini ITX". "mITX", although slightly unnecessary, is still correct.

When the prefix is abbreviated for "mini-ITX", unlike mATX, the complete abbreviation is m-ITX, with hyphen.

In case the moderators do not ban me as requested, this is a notice that I have left and am not coming back.

Either way, there's only one form of ITX, any and all ways will work and be understood until another actual ITX form factor arises. Getting rustled up about it (not directed towards anyone here) is pointless. ITX is ITX.

Well then... ;) Learn something new every day!, 99% of us will be referring to the standard ITX so it's a safe assumption.

The more you know.. My fault for incorrectly referencing the type of system I intent to build =(

Moving right along...

Thoughts, hints, tips, yes, no and maybes for;

Motherboard: MSI Z87I Gaming AC Mini ITX Motherboard

CPU: i5 4670k

RAM: Corsair Vengeance CML16GX3M2A1600C10 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3

Graphics: MSI Radeon R9 290 Gaming 4GB

This will be my first personal intel build in many many years, i5 4670K seams the most logical processor for its price, but im happy to take suggestions.

I think the Corsair AX1200 will  just fit in the case levaing reduced room for cable mangment.  but you use what you have.

Linus did a review and had a ax1200i slotted in just by the look.. If its bad enough I'll sell it and get something more appropriate.. The old dslr battery is on charge, tomorrow I will test fit it and take some photos.

with the ax1200 psu in the case, it extends 2.5cm from the end of the motherboard tray / psu housing.. this leaves 9cm from the psu to the fan grill, and 11cm to the front of the case
