My rig is intel i5 9400f msi b360m mortar and 3200hz of ram 8x2
my question is i know my pc is locked with 2666hz of ram speed and if i want to utilized my 3200hz ram what should i do?
do i have to replace both the mobo and processor or just the mobo

if im not mistaken, both the mobo and cpu is locked to 2666 Mhz

if your pc is serving you well, no reason to upgrade either one. 2666 to 3200 ram may get you a matter of maybe 1 or 2 fps.

Only the Intel K SKU processors can overclock. The motherboard shouldn't be an issue here. When you enable X.M.P. it'll adjust your FSB to compensate for the 2666MHz max setting.

 

So at the very least you'll need a Intel CPU ending with a K. It's possible the motherboard many not handle the overclock well on the memory but you're not asking for much more than what it says is the max. Just enable X.M.P. and see if it's stable.

You do not have to replace the memory or motherboard. In the BIOS check to see what the settings are. If the speed is less than DDR4-2666, you should be able to turn on XMP.
