PC Upgrade

Go to solution Solved by brob,

Oh, didn't think that far. according to the specifications it's a Micro ATX (here's the product page), but space for a motherboard upgrade would be appreciated if that's possible. Don't want to go buy a new case for every part I swap.

I'd suggest you wait for the Nzxt H440 if you like the case. It is supposed to be available some time this month. The case supports the Nzxt Kraken X60 cpu cooler which is an excellent but expensive choice. The H100i would also do a decent, but noisier job. If you are planning to upgrade the gpu and/or cpu in the next couple of years I'd suggest getting a suitably large psu. Something in the 550W - 650W range would be good. Perhaps SeaSonic SS-660XP or Enermax EPM600AWT.

Hey hardware people!

.
I got a PC some time ago, it was really cheap so I didn't really care what was going on inside it, but now that it has been standing around some time, I feel a urge to change some things.

It's a Xeon 1230 (1155 socket), radeon 7850, some ssd, hdd, random gigabyte mobo, mini case. It doesn't really have fans (apart from cpu/gpu) and doesn't need any when under normal usage (internet, word processing, nothing heavy), it's a mistery to me how that works. I wanted to put a water cooling module in for the cpu so I wouldn't have to squeeze a larger heatsink/fan with the other components, corsair hydro most likely, but the psu wouldn't be able to handle that, I'd also need a new case and so on. So now I have to re-build most of the pc, leaving me with some questions:

What psu/case/watercooler should I use? I want to spend as few money as possible.

.

-I like the NZXT H440 that was reviewed recently because of the clean looks, and the cooling possibilities, is it worth waiting for its release or is there something simmilar (maybe cheaper) out there?

.

-I have no idea about the whole water cooling thing. Should I go with corsair hydro and if yes with what model, if no with what other model? (again, price)

.

-What psu should I buy? I calculated that i need about 350-400W, maybe some more for future harddrives. Energy efficient and low price would be great.

.

Thank you in advance for helping me understand hardware :)

This shouldn't be in General Discussion.

As said before, what is your budget for upgrading?

You also need to know which fan sizes are supported in your case to install an AiO.

Could you post which components you already have?

New to Star Citizen? Look no further!

sorry, I didn't find a better subforum to put it since my topic isn't limited to one component.

Budget as I said, somewhere around 200-300€, the fewer money spent the better.

I posted the components I have, along with the wattage needed: "It's a Xeon 1230 (1155 socket), radeon 7850, some ssd, hdd, random gigabyte mobo, mini case." "I calculated that I need about 350-400W, maybe some more for future harddrives." and that I am searching for a new case to go along with the new cooling.

We need to know the size of motherboard in order to know what case would best fit. If you don't know if it is ATX or mATX simply count the number of (equally spaced) expansion slots on the board. Your GPU will be in one and covers another one. Add the remaining. If the total is 6 or 7 then you have an ATX motherboard. Four is an mATX. If there is only room for the gpu then you have a mini ITX.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.
