Charging while gaming

Depends on what way you're charging.

If the laptop does not have a proper charging pattern when it's at 100%, it could be bad for the battery.

 

My laptop has a mode I can toggle so it only changes up to a certain % (50 - 60% is best for battery longevity) and then it just runs off mains, not the battery.

 

In many ways it's better to have your laptop plugged in while taking, because often laptops can only get the highest clockspeeds on CPU's and GPU's when plugged in.

Listen to your friends, when you unplug  - the laptop even consumes less power, produces less heat and even the performance decreases. XD
