Programs to deep scan a PC (errors)

Any programs besides the default Windows program(s) for checking for errors on (external) hard drives?

first of all it's not necessary for the most part...

 

but if you insist, avg pc tuneup has tons of different programs on it including one that will check for errors on drives.
