Hey all,

Hoping people can give me some help or insite here. I have been on several different BIOS versions and in each sometimes my WPump header reverse its speeds so to speak, causing my water pump to basically shut down even though I have it set to a certain PWM in the BIOS. Meaning say I have it set to 80% in the BIOS, something happens and it goes down to 20% and so on and so forth.. only way to resolve this is to reboot my machine. Presently I am on BIOS 7403 (latest at time of writing) but have had time on the last 3 or so BIOS with the same issue as well as older ones previous to Ryzen 3000 launch and release. Pump is an EK D5.

Assuming the noise isn't bad I would just plug it directly into the PSU.

I really wouldn't want to leave it up to the motherboard to play with the pump RPM.

well it has sata power full into the PSU and the header is only 2 pin, ground and PWM so its not 100% necessary, but is nice. Noise isnt an issue for me since im half deaf anyways and a D5 pump IMO is extremely quiet at 100% RPM.

My own Laning D5 has a variable speed (1-5) on the back of it. I just keep it on 2 unless I'm trying to fill an empty loop.

So I take it you're going into the BIOS, you're specifying an RPM on the WPUMP header, it works for a little while then just suddenly drops to the lowest RPM? Does sound like a software issue. The RPM shouldn't be influenced by temps. Did you ever try setting it to full speed and see if it still resets to 20%?

Actually, now that I think about it it's entirely possible it isn't the motherboard but the pump itself. Unless you know that works on a different motherboard.

not really no.. what it does is kind of reverses itself.. so say I have it set at 80% speed, it will flip that and think its 20%. Same if I were to say use software, say Argus Monitor and manually set it to 100% it will set it to 0% and run it at 800rpm instead of the 4800rpm or whatever 100% is at.

but 90% of the time it works normally, lol. Just randomly it loses its mind and flips itself.. like mid session or whatever and have to reboot machine to get it corrected or I do open up Argus and manually adjust it to get it corrected until I can reboot to fix it lol.

Does Argus run in the background? Wonder if it may be influencing it when it shouldn't be?

no, I have it disabled in the start up. I use to run it as my control for it but as a troubleshooting method I stopped doing that and just let BIOS have it and still had the problem even in the BIOS, so its gotta be a BIOS issue.

Hmn...this may be an issue where you have to contact ASUS support. They may report it as a BIOS bug that still needs patching or ask that you RMA your motherboard. I can't think of any other easy fixes/probable causes.

Mobo is out of RMA window, its 2 years old now, 8/23 was the 2 yr order date. Its literally the only issue I have so pretty sure its just a BIOS bug at this point.

Even if it's out of RMA they may look into a BIOS update to patch the issue. The way I see it if it really is a BIOS firmware bug you don't really have much to lose by trying.

Although we can wait and see if anyone else has a better suggestion.
