Hi. I need help with some information and peace of mind. I am looking to buy a RTX 2080 to upgrade my PC but I have a fear of massively bottlenecking my CPU it is a Core i5 6400 6th gen it is a quad core and is boosted up to 3.3 Ghz. I want to know if this would affect my performance alot or will they work well together. Thank you for taking out time of your day to read and maybe respond to my post :).

P.S The RTX 2080 I'm looking to buy is a MSI GeForce RTX 2080 Sea Hawk X 8GB GDDR6

If you have a compatible motherboard and bios you can BCLK OC to 4.2ghz. Eitherway if you plan to go over 60fps you will bottleneck.

You don't really need a 2080 for only a 1080p 144hz display. an RX 5700 would be plenty, and has like 80% of it's performance at half the price.

Your CPU is going to hold you back depending on the game, something like CS:GO will be fine, but any triple AAA title might settle around 90-100fps, which is still plenty IMO.

Just get a more mid range GPU, and wait for Ryzen 4000 in a long while.

Are you saying you have a 4K TV that's advertised with "120hz"? because that's not 4k 120hz. It might run at 120hz if you drop it to 1080p.

NO jokes lol. You guys asked for my monitor but I play on FHD

I edited my post, but if it's a 4K TV that advertises 120hz, then that's fake lol, as those displays are like $1,000 or more on their own.

You can replace it with Ryzen 3000 today, or just wait for Ryzen 4000, a 9900K isn't really that great for the price.

I apologize for wrongly informing Its late and with little knowledge of computers I didnt mean to say UHD as I meant FHD (1080p)

Either way, you'd be fine with a cheaper GPU, what country are you in? an RX 5700 will be plenty, save the rest for a CPU upgrade next year or something else.

Okay If you recommend the RX 5700 then I will look at that I see its cheaper aswell. I live in South Africa.

Everything will be bought from a local gaming store called Evetech website is Evetech.co.za

Ya it's like half the price, well worth it, especially with some of the features it has, like upscaling to cheat out more performance.

If you can't find an aftermarket card with dual fans like the sapphire, power color, or XFX cards, you can do some minor work to the reference blower card to improve it, or just water cool it potentially sometime.

Although it also looks like this XT is really cheap too, compared to the other XT model. the XT is like 10% faster than the regular RX 5700.

Yea I was looking at that card earlier but a friend of mine who builds pcs disapproved the idea of getting a radeon GPU he says he does not recommend it at all. bare in mind I am new to PC gaming so I wouldnt know.

Radeon is fine, they even have more features on the driver side of things, like Radeon Chill which lowers your fps to save on power/heat if you aren't doing anything in game. Or In game replay to see a video of the last few moments of gameplay, useful for something like Dota.

The blower cooler isn't great, but it can be fixed if aftermarket cards aren't readily available in your region.

Here's a big benchmark comparison.

The main thing, is that it's perfectly fine for 1080p 144hz, at half the price of the 2080. Or a bit below, the 2070 super in price.

I looked at the video and it performs around what I am looking for. Yet again I can't explain the appreciation for your time for giving me tips and guidance. I'll surely go after that card and do some extra upgrades with the spare money that I would've used on the 2080.

B550 boards come out early next year or maybe December of this year, the Ryzen 5 3600 would be the CPU to go for
