Hi, my friend wants to build a new gaming pc without breaking the bank. There price range is about $300-500, and are mainly looking to play a AAA titles such as Overwatch. They are also switching from Mac to windows and will most likely need a new monitor since they have one that runs on 780p, you don"t have to include the windows key since I have many unactivated one lying around. Thanks :)))))

This in conjunction with the best GPU you can get off eBay with the remaining funds would do quite nicely. I would personally suggest using the current monitor, even though it's crap, and buying a better one down the line if the appearance is not suitable.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

PSU tier list

How many watts do I need?

PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

Welcome to the forums!

We can definitely do something for your friend. You have two options. One is to look for used hardware. If you love PC building and bargaining, it's the best option.

If you must buy all-new, what I suggest is to grab a Ryzen 5 CPU with an integrated graphics processor. The GPU in it is good for Overwatch at medium settings, 1080p which is fine for entry level, and the CPU is strong enough that you can slap in a graphics card later and enjoy a huge boost in performance.

If you went, all new, this is my suggestion. Give your friend the following build, then have him save up about $100 more and buy an RX 570 which is a card that will give him a huge boost in gaming performance for cheap.

PCPartPicker Part List

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2400G 3.6 GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($119.69 @ Amazon)

You are welcome to tweak the build to your liking, but keep in mind a couple things:

Try to keep the fast, 3000MHz RAM. Integrated graphics processors like the one on the Ryzen 2400G rely on your system RAM to use as video memory, so an increase in its speed is significant in terms of performance.

There are a lot of low quality, almost dangerous power supplies that go around for cheap. That one there is the cheapest I could find that will not give you problems.

You could go with a smaller SSD and save about $30. If you do that, you will find yourself running out of space in a couple months, at that point you can buy a hard drive or even a bigger SSD to throw in there. There's no reason to use hard drives nowadays since SSDs are between 10 and 50 times as fast, and only cost twice as much per GB.

Let us know what you think :)

P.S. I'll have to ask @LukeSavenije, our resident Seasonic critic, what he thinks of the S12III model. I'm almost 100% confident it will do you well. But he's the real expert on when not to choose Seasonic, an otherwise excellent brand.

We have a NEW and GLORIOUSER-ER-ER PSU Tier List Now. (dammit @LukeSavenije stop coming up with new ones)

You can check out the old one that gave joy to so many across the land here

Hi, thank you for your help. I was wondering if it would be fine if i were to change the ssd to a 250gb one and use the scraped money to put a Ryzen 5 2600 instead of the 2400G, and just give them a tb hard drive they can move the games onto

no bueno to me. just because it's individually regulated doesn't mean it's good

it uses the ancient dual mag amp, which needs a load and is less efficient than dcdc

evga gd seems like a decent option, something by fsp that reminds me of the pure power 11

and your motherboard taste isn't good either so far... swap for a pro4

The problem with the Ryzen 5 2600 is that it doesn't have integrated graphics. So you'd have to buy a graphics card, which increases your friend's initial investment.

If your friend doesn't mind going $120 higher, have him grab a 2600 and an RX 570.

I get where you're coming from, but as someone who has in the past made some very tight budget builds, every penny is worth saving and features / performance of a decent motherboard aren't that needed if the budget conscious gamer doesn't go overclocking on a cheap af mobo :)

EDIT: forgot the most important part: can you find a better PSU below $50? Cuz I remember the CX450M being as cheap as $20 as little as a year ago

Thats a good thing to know, i'll prob just get them a early birthday present and surprise them with a VEGA 56 since there is a new one in my area that someone is selling for $200...would that be good?
