RSI

Prokart2000

Hi everyone

So my doctor told me a few weeks back I have a bit of rsi and that I should just rest and take pain medication but I feel that it's not helping the most.

If I had to guess I'd say its moderate as its nowhere near as bad as some things I've seen on the Web. It's fine when I wake up but the pain starts when I start doing stuff with it.

I've just started icing it and getting my dad to massage it and it's helped a little. I'm also trying to limit my use of it, it hurts most typing on my phone or using a mouse.

Is there anything you'd recommend to help it heal? It's more of an annoyance than anything

Many thanks

Pro

My Setup :P

I had a RSI that has since turned into carpal tunnel in both wrists with my right being worse. Get a wrist brace that has a splint to minimize movement. Wear it while sleeping and if your wrist starts hurting during the day but try not to wear it 24/7 for weeks on end as that will weaken your muscles. A brace will help a lot though. :)

Thanks for the reply, I will look at getting a brace for it. I presume you can just order one off amazon?

It was really bad before seeing the doctor but now it's moderate but does not seem to be healing as fast.

Whatever you did to cause it, do less of that from now on even after it heals.

Yeah, doing stuff that caused RSI with RSI will screw you up a bit

I used to have that problem back when I used my laptop trackpad for everything, and it eventually hurt my wrist to use.

Change the way you do things, introduce some type of exercises to vary things up.

I personally use a PowerBall for RSI. My pain usually goes away quickly, within a day or so. Can take longer for others, especially it's badly injured.

Well, more limited and less intense, probably.

Does using a controller help? I've got a buddy who plays Destiny 2 with a standard Xbox controller, and I've given it a go (mostly use mine for Forza and other racing games). They're more comfortable than a mouse for sure, if the OP just plays slower paced games with good controller support they should be fine.

Would pressups be suitable?

Pushups basically introduce stress by putting your weight on your wrists, which strain your already sore wrists, so no. I don't think it's suitable... You could do a few, if it hurts, stop right away.

It helped me and many others. But I guess it also depends on the severity of your injury.

I'd imagine it would. I can only use a controller for a small handful of games, and Destiny 2 is not one of them :P

It's got very, very good controller support and handling, it's pretty much seamless from console according to everyone who has done the switch. But a) I suck with controller for shooters, didn't really grow up playing them like a lot of other peeps did, and b) you lose a lot of your mobility, you can't flick around as quickly.

I know it has great controller support, it's technically a console port if you think about it ;)

I tried a controller for Destiny, couldn't do crap with it xD

I too got terrible wrist pain when using the trackpad on one of my old laptops while mine was in for repair. I couldn't even use a door handle.

When I got my new laptop, within a day or two the pain had gone and I've been perfectly fine ever since.

I also had issues when I was using a cheap Logitech K270 just after moving, but when I switched back to my Microsoft Wireless Keyboard 1000 it went away.

There's only two mice that I've used that haven't caused wrist pain, my MX Master, and a generic Dell Laser Mouse that I used at college
