I need help with an ssd

Go to solution Solved by Mira Yurizaki,

Boot in a recovery environment from an install media or put the SSD in another computer. Then using the command line issue chkdsk [drive letter] /r where [drive letter] is the letter of where the Windows install is.

If it comes back with problems, the SSD is toast. Though the SSD is likely toast anyway.

I recently got a crucial bx 500 240gb ssd and did a fresh install on it but ever since I keep getting bsod all the time I looked nearly everywhere but the closest thing I found was this post on windows forums

Just like Mira said. If it turns out to be toast, just RMA it.

Can I clone the contents of the drive to another before this process?

This process will not remove the data. And if there is a problem with the data (like a corrupted file), the clone will copy those problems too, assuming it doesn't quit because it encountered some problem getting the data.

In case the drive was bad could I do a fresh install of Windows from that drive?

A fresh install on a bad storage drive won't fix anything. If the drive has bad areas practically out of the box, it should be considered defective and should be returned.

Oh, well that's fine.

OK since I have my windows license on that drive I'll just fresh install onto another. Sorry if I seemed rude in the conversation above I wasn't trying to question your expertise. Could you help me with one more thing I just want to check if it might be a ram issue which may be possible?

The license is tied to the motherboard if it's an OEM one. Otherwise it doesn't really matter as long as one only computer is using it.

I didn't think of it as such, so no worries!

If you have a spare USB thumb drive, you can run MemTest86+ to check for RAM issues.

Is this how the ram test should look? And do you know how to stop it the resolution is bigger then my screen so I can't see the key binds

Yes.

Keep in mind the test runs forever. General recommendation used to be overnight, but whatever you're comfortable with is fine too.

ESC reboots the system.

I think that's all that's necessary :P

Right thanks for the help I'll update you tomorrow but hopefully its only the SSD and not the ram. One more quick question do you have any idea why would the SSD be broken its brand new could it have been made with an error?

Could be for a number of reasons from the time every piece was manufactured to when it was put on the shelf. But sometimes stuff just happens to be broken on arrival.

All is fixed it wasn't the SSD it was the ram I had the xmp profile turned on to 2400mgz and it caused the bsod. Is there any way to get the advertised preformence without xmp?

You can always try setting the speed directly. That's what happened with the RAM kit in my last build.
