Sorry if I am posting on the wrong page but I want advice on which card I should buy. I gamer at 1080p 60Hz (monitor limited) for division 2, overwatch and borderlands 3 (when it comes out) mainly, The custom Sapphire Pulse 5700 or the reference 5700 xt, I heard the MSI one was better but since sapphire was on sale i thought I might go for Sapphire. I just thought it doesn't make sense to buy a weaker card at a price higher than the 5700xt reference card.

If your after performance and don't care about the noise the 5700xt would be better. For 1080p60 both cards will easily achieve that on almost every game so if you want your PC to be quiet than get the 5700 pulse. (Both cards can easily get 60+ fps on almost max or max settings in those games so it's up to you if you prefer sacrificing noise for performance or not)

why no dark mode?

I would not buy a 5700xt reference they run hot and I would be concerned about the longevity of the card. fortunatly AIB partners have nonreference models out with sufficient cooling sand only for a few bucks more. Hopefully team red gets on board with dual fan models being reference life team green did. (I still recommend the 5700xt though vs the nvidia offerings)

Unfortunately I don't see the red devil in either of the stores I usually shop here, so I can't compare.

ah sadly same here. i guess they simply havent recieved them yet other than the us. which sucks i really was hoping maybe either getting that limited edition red devil or a 2070 super. guess ill have to stick with 2070 super.

Personally i wouldnt take any other brand above the red devil. the pulse is pretty meh, looks shite and isnt on par with the red devil. build quality in my opinion

The AIB card literally just came out so are commanding a premium,. give it a few weeks and they may come down some.  In the US its liek $20 more but they are all out of stock everywhere I look or marked up to a rediculous premium.

I still would nto buy the reference card unless I were planning to keep it for under 2 years, that this runs to hot and is going to be a ticking time bomb on when (not if) it will burn out

What do you mean by 'burn out' the card is not going to 'burn out' after 2 years of use, don't try to scare people, reference card is fine.

the reference design literally will run at 110C. we have consistently seen silicone running at those temps not lasting very long. Nvidia did this with Fermi and the GTX 470/480. They claimed (like AMD is now) that the cards were designed to run at these temps. That was determined to be a lie, they lasted a few years, but as somebody working on computers I can say I saw a lot of them dead after heavy use in only 2-3 years ,it just meant that it would last past the warrenty period.

I don't think it is alarmist or trying to scare people about the legitimate issue of the reference cooler being inadequate. AIB cards are seen to run much cooler so the 5700 is certainly an option and a real winner over Nvidia in performance here. Once the better cooled AIB cards come more in line when demand is not so high they will be a welcome addition. it is sad AMD decided not to spend a few more bucks on their reference cooler to make it better.

The reference card is specced to run at up to 110C, in reality it doesn't, i own the card, and it hits around 92C juction and 71C edge with stock fan curve and 23C ambient, and also, the 400series nvidia cards went of edge temp, not juction, so the juction temp on those cards was probably 130C+. I do agree that the cooler is shit though, amd really didn't try, its disappointing and if i were in the US i would have got a partner card for $10 more, but $629 vs $729 isn't worth it for a better cooler in my opinion.

I doubt they stay $100 more for very long. the only cards i can find in teh US are people who bought them and are reselling or vendors selling for way over MSRP due to demand. what is the MSRP of the AIB cards in AU?

though at $100AU I am curious what a waterblock costs there, because in the US usually I can get a full card waterblock for ~$100-150.

as an example I could buy a 5700xt on amazon for $466 + 18 shipping in the US of if I am willign to wait for them to be in stock from a non douchebag vendor I can buy it for $420 but It says in stock expected in 2 weeks.

also of note maybe AMD really did the R&D to make the card ok at the claimed 110... but I do not personally trust it.
