I've used the NZXT Kraken series for about two years now. I... The aesthetics are what sells it for me. The cooling isn't anything spectacular, pretty normal thermals for what I'd expect. Acoustics aren't very noticeable from the pump unless you put it on performance mode or a custom curve that you can setup from within their very stupid and badly coded software. Sometimes my CPU block lights just go off, and I'd have to flick them off then on from within the software to get them back. Furthermore, the temp tracking of the CPU hasn't been reliable at all when compared to my mobo indicated temps, MSI Afterburner gets a much closer reading.

The pump on my first Kraken X62 broke, granted the current one has lasted longer and I've had no issues with the hardware, so it could just be a bad pump. It took about 4 months for them to RMA me a new loop, a lot of ridiculous back-and-forth to get it.

tl;dr

+ Good aesthetics

- Bad software

- Bad customer support

The money may be better spent on getting a better cpu to begin with.

What are your specs and why are you looking at this cooler in particular? What are you looking for in a cooler?

Where are you shopping / located? Budget?

How so? The 3600 is a solid cpu. Unless he's do a bunch of encoding there's no need for anything more. It's not like it's a slow cpu.  So how is the money better spent?  How is spending $330 better then $130? He already has the cpu so how would his $130 be better spent?

Probably because the stock heatsink is trash that comes with the Ryzen 5's .

And no the aio or better cooler is not overkill. That stock heatsink is trash and Ryzen 2 runs hot. Better cooler is always a wise investment because of how focused the heat is from the 7nm chiplet.

Prices haven't been mentioned but I'm assuming the ML360R is near msrp which is pretty expensive. It's probably enough to go from the 3600 to a 3700x which comes with a Wraith Prism and would probably perform at least as well if not better and have the potential for better performance later down the road with a cooler upgrade. I'm not saying that's what the OP should do but it's likely the money could be better spent on a cheaper cooler or elsewhere if there isn't a specific reason for getting the ML360R.

Are you sure that the 3600 is already purchased? The OP mentioned a new build.
