New build, and probably half of the time I try to turn the machine on, it functions perfectly fine - the other half, it doesn't even get to the point of posting or displaying anything, and the board displays a q-code of "8d".

At that point, I just shut down by holding the power button, and try again, and it'll boot up normally within a few tries.

Contacting Asus tech support got me a generic response telling me to check any error codes in the manual... after specifically saying 8d isn't in the manual, so I'm open to any suggestions.

Ryzen 7 3800X

This looks to be a BIOS related issue. Try flashing your board to the newest available BIOS. You should be able to do this easily since your board has BIOS flashback capabilities.

X570 is brand new and they're still working out a lot of the bugs as @Skiiwee29 suggested flashing to the new bios is a great idea, and with how consistent bios updates have been dropping for X570 I'd say check once or twice a month for a new one, I know some of the boards have been having memory incompatibility issues that have caused some computers not to post but they were fixed by a bios update.

Yep, even with my x370 board... I would randomly get a C5 error on cold boot meaning a memory error and would have to clear CMOS to post again. It is seemingly fixed in the latest BIOS for my board that released a week or so ago with my 3700x.

1005 is the most recent bios, but if that's the most likely culprit, I'll just keep my eye out for when it's updated again.

Hmm next time you can get it to post or go into windows you should definitely run Aida64, and Memtest86. Reading up on the error a few people have the same issue with the "8d" error code and it is apparently a ram parity issue, either the ram you have is incompatible with the board or it is defective. Here's a link for the discussion I found this information in.
