I'm at my parent's house trying to troubleshoot the wifi connection on my moms desktop.  It's an i3-6100 with a netgear *AC6100 adapter (win10 64-bit).  The wifi router is an amplifi by ubiquiti and it's connected to a comcast router/modem which is in bridge mode.

The modem has been replaced and the adapter has been replaced with the same model and her tablet works just fine on the wifi network so I'm not suspecting the wifi router.

What happens is it works just fine for a while and then slows down and then says "no internet connection".  Troubleshooter can't find any problems.  The tablet and desktop are the only items I know of on wifi so I don't have a large base of devices to know the reliability of the router.  Maybe phones use it and I'm on my personal laptop right now, but considering it's intermediate who knows.

I'm updating and virus and malware scanning now just for routine maintenance

Any thoughts on what to check?

*edit: it has been working just fine for a year or two with nothing changing until there was a problem.

Audio go Brrrrrr

Well yes, if she goes away and comes back it's fine.  Problem is we replaced it and also it's just a little thumb drive type thing.  The brand new one didn't work out of the box right away either.

well this heat thing might be the issue, I asked her if it was just the internet or the computer that slows down but I'm thinking she doesn't know the difference.  I'm going to check system temps

this problem always happens with these usb thumb wifi cards

perfectly cool to the touch, I don't get it, opened up the system and it's a little dusty but hwinfo says that all the temps are fine.  I did notice that a speed test was very slow when I got here but normal after a restart or two

yeah, no clue what it is.  I think if the updates to the OS didn't do it I'll go get an actual wifi adapter, those thumb ones are garbage

Agree with that one , or maybe try updating the drivers
