No screen tearing without v-sync?

Yes i know this is an old topic and be answered many times before but my laptop has a gtx970 and it doesn't have adaptive sync, other solutions?

Pc value: 9999999$. Alienware 15 r2: 16GB Ram ddr3, Intel Core i-7 4110HQ @ 3.5ghz, gtx 970m, 1 TB HDD *for games*, 120GB SSD *for windows*.

fastest boot time, 6.5 seconds

V-Sync should deal with screen tearing just fine, specially if it's a 60hz screen.

 

Always favor Triple Buffered if available.

or find the sweet spot of ur monitor where it wont tear, and set fps cap to that

The game i really only play is Team Fortress 2. So fps on that game is a little hard. Even with v-sync it drops to 40 when there are alot of people around.

I play team fortrss 2, don't think that's an option. Yeah i have 60hz with v-sync but it drops to 40fps in a crowd of people

A GTX970M should be capable of producing 60fps on Team Fortress 2, there's something wrong with your laptop, it could be overheating or your OS is not healthy maybe drivers are messing up or you're running off the iGPU.

 

Something is clearly wrong with the setup.

I recently re-installed windows 10. Everything runs fine with updated drivers. It's not really the map that causes the frames. It's the mercenary's and sentries etc

Even exploded body parts cause the frames to go to 40. I heard of triple buffering but would it work on tf2 and how would i do it?
