best gpu for I7-4790 non k

Recently got a super deal on an entry level pc. It came with:

I7-4790

16gb ram

Corsair water cooler

500w power supply

1060 3gb.

 

I was wondering if upgrading to a 1060 6gb or even 1070? I'm just trying to get the best gpu for this system without my older CPU bottlenecking.

Usually a used Vega 56 is a solid recommend for the price/performance, but you can't put it on a cheapo power supply.

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

 

How many watts do I need? ATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explained, group reg is bad

GTX 1060 6GB or RX 580 would probably be the closest match not counting older cards like GTX 970 that you could get deals on.

Depends on the games and res. That cpu doesn’t get far. 

 

Id do a 1070 or something similar if I had to go green.
