I chose to delid my 7700k and was wondering if a more experienced user could help me out. I am getting high temps but only after a few hours of use. Immediately after the delid, temps are quite good. So I used thermal paste instead of liquid metal and was wondering if pump out (where the heat cycles will push the tim off of the die) is a real problem.

Secondly, could it be that I used an adhesive right away after deliding and not allowing the paste to adhere to the die correctly?

Thanks for any help,

Alex

pump out can be a problem but it depends on your use case and how many cycles (of heat) you put.

using the adhesive has nothing to do with the paste to adhere. it does that almost instantly. the adhesive just glues the heatspreader so it doesnt move.

Liquid metal is trash. Way to reactive. Why won't people look into the crap they use. Then they say hey it drys out. No it's reacting to the moisture in the air. It stains copper. No. It's aloys with the copper it's not staining.

And no "pump out" is not a problem.  You are doing what intel does from the factory. The adhesive is not a 100% seal.

Now again putting the ihs back on the cpu is yet another area that the PC community does something they have no idea what they are doing.  For the sealent you need low acetoxy for electronics.

That said I never resealed mine. Installs into the socked just go slow and make sure it does not move when you lock it. I like NT-H1 if you don't seal the ihs back on because it's got a good amount of holding power  and it's good stuff.

Why you got the ihs off I would go ahead and lap the top of it. Again computer people use glass and glass is not flat because why do things right. You wanna use a granet block or marble block. Glass is made by floating it so it's not flat.  This will help get more contact your your thermal solution and lower temps. Not required but if I delid I always lap the top of the ihs. But of you can't do it right don't do it. You can cause more harm then good if you do not have a flat surface.
